Blog Post #6

While researching racism against native americans, I came across an on dosomething.org. If you are not already familiar with this website, it is a non-profit organization with the mission of getting young people (ages 13-25) involved in charity and causes to make the world a better place. Click here for the article.

This piece addresses prejudice against native americans both in the past, and in the present day. It made me think back to what we learn in history class about the native americans being mistreated and pushed off their land by the European settlers. It upset me to think about how the discrimination of these native people is an unresolved issue dating all the way back to hundreds of years ago. Although this article is informative, I have yet to find an organization supporting an end to native american racism and I intend to do so for one of my later blogposts because after a little research, it is a cause I feel strongly about.

#1 Intro

Hey everyone! I have decided to research the racism that Native Americans face as my sociology topic. Although we have overcome a lot as a nation, racism is still an evident issue in today's society. I selected native american prejudice, specifically, because I feel that it is often overlooked and viewed as a lesser problem than the way other groups such as Black Americans are treated. Throughout this semester I hope to learn more about the Native American background, the struggles they have faced and their current place in modern society.
